The film was originally scheduled for release in July 2017, but was released in cinemas on 19 January 2018. It was theatrically released in the UK by Chennai Express' producer Goldmines Motion Pictures International.
Reception
Critical response
Rohit Vats of The Times of India awarded the film two and half stars out of five, writing, "Lakshmi is an intensely emotional film that would work better in a larger theatre. The heroines' hard knocks during their childhood are impossible to forget. But because the film indulges in excessive sentimentality at the start, and the interval, its 'intensity' quickly vanishes and the film becomes a dreary melodrama."
